Avatar at the Oscars

The nominees for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be announced on February 2nd.

Personally I think Avatar will get 9 nominations, and will end up wining 4 or 5 categories.

How many nominees do you think Avatar will get?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Below is a list of all the categories, I’ve highlighted the categories that I think Avatar will be nominated in.

'Percy Jackson's' Erica Cerra is a goddess, and a deputy

Erica Cerra is billed as the hottest woman on Syfy -- Deputy Jo Lupo on the series "Eureka" -- and now she'll be playing an actual goddess (Hera) in the movie "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."  We caught up with the actress, who also has a movie coming out soon called "The Stranger" with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and asked her about acting up north, acting tough and acting among the gods.

WIZARDS OF HOLLYWOOD

On Tuesday, the Academy Awards nominations will be announced, and it's a good bet that no film will have its name called out more than "Avatar." Here's a look at the performance-capture innovations of the film in a documentary that Fox has provided for you Hero Complex readers as part of our ongoing Wizards of Hollywood series on visual-effects sciences.

Giacchino leads IFMCA nomination race

Composer Michael Giacchino set a new record in the six year long history of the International Film Music Critics Association Awards with nine (9) nominations for his output in 2009. Along with several mentions for his score to the animated Up (which also earned the composer the Golden Globe) and Star Trek, the 42-year old composer received nominations for television series Lost as well as documentary Earth Days.

'The Losers' are on a mission -- and don't call them 'The B-Team'

"The Losers" are on a mission -- and don't even think about calling them "The B-Team."

Above is a cast photo from the new commando adventure "The Losers"  which opens on April 9, two months before that other military-ops movie, "The A-Team," which has a somewhat similar plot: An elite team is sent on suicide missions but survive and return to go after their duplicitous superiors. But "The Losers" director Sylvain White says that his action film marches to its own drummer.

Deleted Scene from Avatar: Jake Sully Gets Recruited

You may or may not have heard by now, but James Cameron’s “Avatar” is doing pretty good at that there box office. I believe it could prove profitable for the studio, so let’s all cross our fingers that ol Jimmy boy gets to eat tonight. Anyways, if you’ve read the “Avatar” script (it was put online as a free download, get it here), you read the beginning, which was set on Earth and featured Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) getting into a fight at a bar before being promptly tossed out on his ass. Well here’s an image from that deleted scene, featuring Jake on his back as he’s approached by two MIBs with a proposition. Via I09.

Is Pre-Production For Avatar 2 Already Underway?

Well I would hope so, considering how long it took for James Cameron to make the first one. Of course, there’s a lot of material all ready to yank from the assets of the first extravaganza. There is tons of blue tinted stuff and leafy bio-luminescent alien flora. Mountains somehow defying gravity, check, got that. Toothy alien jungle critters. Plenty of those.
To be honest, although I really loved the first “Avatar”, I’m not really sure how much more story there is to tell. The world setup is pretty simple. I’m assuming the human menace will return and this time bring bigger mechs and nastier, maybe four rotor, helicopters.

Avatar Is Now the Highest Grossing Movie Ever Made

We all knew it would happen eventually, we just didn't know when. Now we do. At some point over the weekend, Avatar surpassed Titanic's record-holding total of $1.242 billion dollars, and now it sits somewhere north of $1.292 billion – making it the highest grossing film of all time. The record it still hasn't set yet has to do with domestic grosses, though it's only about $50 million shy of Titanic's $600.8 million. So, congrats to all of you who made Avatar the biggest film of all time (in terms of box office draw)!

Sam Worthington to Play Dracula?

Now that Avatar has become the highest grossing movie of all time, it's safe to say that film's star, Sam Worthington, has become a household name, or is at least a lot more recognizable than he was prior to Avatar. With another mega, effects-laden spectacular (Clash of the Titans) set to hit theaters in a couple months, Worthington – with his good looks, action hero charm and ability to kick lots of butt – could soon become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood (if he isn't already). So what's he going to do next? How about Dracula?

Avatar DVD and Blu-ray information

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the upcoming release of the Avatar DVD and Blu-ray this past weeks.

Cameron has said that he anticipates the film to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray sometime June-August, but doesn’t expect a 3D version of the film to be released immediately.

He said this in December, before he knew what level of success Avatar would have, so maybe it’s more likely that we get the DVD and Blu-ray release somewhere around September-November since Avatar still performs strong at the Box Office.
