After Harrison Ford is led out on the Hall H stage in handcuffs, a Comic-Con audience is pretty much going to go berserk no matter what sort of footage you show. But it helps if that footage comes from nerd god Jon Favreau and features Ford and the current bearer of the James Bond mantle, Daniel Craig.

“Avatar” star Sam Worthington will be playing the title role in the film adaptation of “Dan Dare.” Warner Bros. recently closed a deal for the feature rights to the British property. The character, created by Frank Hampson, first appeared as a comic in 1950 and centered on a gallant chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet. The story took place in the ’90s, with Dare exploring planets presumed to have extraterrestrial life. “Dan Dare” was later adapted for radio and television. Worthington has been attached to the project for several months. Basil Iwanyk, who worked with Worthington on “Clash of the Titans,” will produce the project under his Thunder Road banner.

Following Walt Disney Animation Studio’s groundbreaking deal to license Nuke compositing software from The Foundry, the two companies have struck a more far-reaching agreement that marks the first time the Mouse House has licensed its proprietary animation software to an outside company. Parts of the Mouse’s Paint3D software will be incorporated into Mari, the Foundry’s off-the-shelf texture painting tool. Mari was originally developed by Weta Digital and has been used on “Avatar” and “District 9,” among other pics. The Walt Disney Animation Studios technology group will be part of a Mari steering committee.

Nickelodeon has greenlit a new series from Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko that is a continuation of their animated hit show “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Tentatively titled “The Legend of Korra,” the animated series will premiere in 2011 and focus on the next Avatar, a young female called Korra. “Korra” is set 70 years after the events of “Airbender” and sees Korra moving to Republic City to master her final element – air. With the guidance of the previous avatar Aang’s son Tenzin, she has to fight crime and face a growing anti-bending movement that threatens to rip the metropolis apart.

I was sensing a mixed crowd – with some of you itching to see the film again in 3D up on the big screen (like me), and others not interested in what they consider to be a cash-grab attempt (ie: just a way for the studio to make even more money off the movie).

Avatar Re-Release Special Edition Trailer

I guess having made a gazillion dollars means people really, really like watching you. Which is probably why, despite having cleaned up on DVD and Blu-ray, James Cameron and the boys at Twentieth Century Fox are re-releasing “Avatar” back into theaters as a “Special Edition” on August 27. Check out the trailer for the re-release. The re-release will appear only in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D theaters, and will contain about 8 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the movie. Obviously all you pervs out there are hoping for that Navi sex scene that actress Zoe Saldana claimed she shot with Sam Worthington. A little tail action, perhaps?
